About Us

loren-gibsonI am dually licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist as well as a Licensed Professional Counselor.

I have over 10 years experience in working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families suffering from a variety of issues. I have worked in a variety of settings including inpatient, intensive outpatient, residential treatment centers, advocacy/nonprofit settings, and private practice. As both an LMFT and LPC, I have unique experience in working with both individuals, and couples and families. To become licensed as an LMFT, half of the required counseling hours must come from sessions including a family or a couple. This experience and subsequent work with families has given me increased knowledge into the complex working of family systems.

Systemic approaches view individuals within the context of the relationships around them including parents, siblings, spouses, children, and peers. We interact in a multitude of systems everyday and it’s these interactions that often create the most distress. Have you ever wondered why your child behaves like a “perfect angel” at school but a “terror” at home? Or why your husband or wife seems to have unending energy and delight when interacting with peers, but lacks the same enthusiasm with you? Learning how to navigate these relationships can greatly improve the happiness in your life. I am very passionate about the work that I do with families, and I hope to help you renew your enjoyment in your relationships with others.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with weekend and evening appointments available to conveniently fit your schedule.

My therapeutic approach is heavy in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Client Centered Therapy. In short, CBT highlights the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviors; DBT works towards effective communication/healthy relationships, effectively dealing with negative emotions and situations, and mindfulness; and Client Centered Therapy emphasizes the importance of therapist authenticity/genuineness, unconditional acceptance of the client, and empathy and understanding. I also enjoy using Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with children, a form of CBT that is tailored towards children with trauma/abuse.
I have worked with adults and adolescents struggling with abuse/trauma, suicidal ideations, self-harm, psychosis, self-esteem issues, gender identity issues, substance abuse issues, eating issues, domestic violence, depression, and anxiety. I have also worked with children struggling with abuse/trauma, behavioral issues, depression, suicidal ideations, self-harm, and anxiety. I have multiple years of experience working in inpatient hospitals for children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Throughout my hospital work I gained experience in group therapy, individual therapy, and family therapy. I also have experience working in a private practice setting for individual therapy. I enjoy working in individual and group settings and with those ages 8-65.
I offer a non-judgmental and genuine environment for you to express your thoughts and feelings, gain insight, and work towards goals that fit your individual needs. I look forward to hearing from you as we enter into a therapeutic relationship.
